Trainspotting-Marketing

The Poster
The poster doesn’t let out much information about the type of movie. The genre and themes cannot be indentified from just looking at the poster. Although the target audience isn’t given we know from the rating that only 18’s can view the movie, why is the rating so high, possibly because there may be some explicit scenes, foul language, violence or drugs. We do not know who the target audience is we know that they have to be over 18, an adult. Unique selling points that are used in this posters are the characters because there images are larger than the title, the audience are automatically attracted to the characters and may recognise them from other movies. Another selling point is “From the makers of Shallow Grave” this is saying that the people who made Shallow Grave made Trainspotting possibly attracting the audience from Shallow Grave to this movie, because if they liked the work done on Shallow Grave they may like the work done on Trainspotting. The information Given about the movie is the title, Trainspotting, the main characters profile, image and name, the rating, the age of the people who are allowed to see the movie (18), another movie that creators have made, so if you know who made Shallow Grave then you know who made this movie, at the bottom in the black there are some of the companies that helped produce the movie and the actors names. From looking at this poster the main thing that attracts me to this film is the fact that it is called Trainspotting and they haven’t included an image of a train, there is a contrast between the title and the images.
The Trailer
The trailer lets on more information about the movie due to the sound and video. Although the genre still isn’t clear, we can see some key narratives that are going to be seen in the movie. The target audience again isn’t clear like the poster we can only see that the movies is for over 18’s because there ratings. The selling points are the same as the poster as they still include the characters profile; each section has been dedicated to a character and events that happen to them in the movie, a profile image and there is used before showing little clips of their events from the movie. “From the Makes of Shallow Grave” is included as the selling point, people who have seen Shallow Grave will now who the makers are and would have wanted to watch Trainspotting because they enjoyed Shallow Grave. The thing that makes me want to see the movie is the choppy cuts used in the trailer it just makes me want to see more, everything is very speedy and seems like I just need to watch more.
